History of company
"The basis for beautiful skin is genetically given to us by our parents. Maintaining it is mostly connected to our lifestyle and behavior."
Anna Lotan was born and grew up in the Ukraine. After spending most of the war years in Siberia, she went to study cosmetics in Germany, Vienna and Paris.
In 1950 she emigrated to Israel, she managed Israel's first school of cosmetics under the auspices of the WIZO women's organization. Shortly afterwards she initiated the role of beauticians within the kibbutz movement.
Anna taught the theory and practice of cosmetics for many years. A whole generation of students grew up knowing not only how to run a salon, but also how to make the skincare preparations needed to treat the different skin types of kibbutz members her teaching.
Anna was renowned for developing new treatment methods based on her understanding of the skin's needs, especially in Israel's hot climate.
In the Sixties she invented the concept of Cold Hydration to replace steam as the accepted method of skin hydration. This was gentler and more suitable for sensitive skin and for skin affected by acne, seborrhea and couperose conditions. The method was universally adopted in Israeli salons and allowed beauticians to work almost entirely without electrical machinery.
At the end of the Seventies, Anna Lotan set up a private laboratory to develop beauty products based on botanical extracts and Dead Sea minerals. the very beginning, she defined a series of Fundamental Treatment Principles which became and have remained the foundation for all product research and development within the company. In 1990 a family-run manufacturing plant was set up in Caesarea /Or Akiva, one of the most picturesque parts of Israel. The company, Anna Lotan Ltd, now supplies skin care professionals, beauty salons, pharmacies and distributors throughout Israel and many other countries around the world.
By tradition, Anna Lotan products are based on natural active ingredients especially those taken plants grown locally or around the Mediterranean region.
Today, in her late eighties, Anna has retired day to day involvement in the company, which is now run by her daughter Liora and son Oded. However she still takes an active interest in the R & D activities and remains an important contributor in the development of new formulations.
